A transparent glass that embraces the flowers and plants
Saburo's "Botanical Kiriko Gururi" is a delicate drink made from clear glass, decorated all around with a cut glass pattern based on the flowers and plants found on the shores of Lake Biwa. It is as if the entire glass is enveloped in the breathing of the plants. The delicate carvings sparkle and reflect light every time a drink is poured into them, bringing a sense of quiet healing. This is a masterpiece that conveys the warmth of handcrafted work, even in its simple and natural appearance.

Artist Saburo - With shining glassware
Saburo was born in Shiga Prefecture in 1976. In 1996, while living in Germany, he was inspired by a glass block church he encountered and became deeply fascinated with the world of design. He then pursued his passion for glass and graduated from the Department of Design at the Toyama Glass Research Institute in 2003.
After graduating, he worked in Toyama Prefecture, where he developed his unique glass works based on the techniques and sensibilities he developed there. He is currently based in his hometown of Shiga Prefecture, where he continues to create works centered around kiln work. Saburo's works are loved by many people for their harmonious designs that blend Japanese and Western styles, and their unique beauty of color.
The charm of Saburo's glassware, with its warmth
Saburo creates glassware using a technique called kiln work. This technique involves combining small pieces of glass, filling the gaps with colored powdered glass, and firing the pieces in a kiln to create beautiful mosaic patterns. Furthermore, by blending colors in his own way and adding glass powder that changes color during firing, he achieves colors with a unique depth and richness. The husband and wife team carry out the above process to create glassware that exudes the warmth of something handmade.
When Saburo's pieces catch the light, even the shadows are beautifully projected like art, creating a cool and refreshing atmosphere. By incorporating these pieces into your dining table, you can visually feel the coolness of the table.
He also has a diverse style, drawing inspiration from a variety of sources to create stylish glassware. His glassware, which shows a different expression every time you look at it, can sometimes feel almost alive. The same piece can take on different atmospheres depending on the season and the light, so its appeal can be enjoyed all year round.
*As these are handmade, there may be individual differences in color and shape. Please enjoy the unique texture that can only be achieved through handcrafting.
