Glass artist Mutsumi Hirai adds excitement to everyday life
Mutsumi Hirai, originally from Okayama, studied glassmaking in the United States before starting her production base in Okayama in 2012. She continues to create works inspired by the beauty found in everyday life, such as architecture and textiles.
Hirai-san, who says, "I like to use them myself," designs her works to be easy to hold and to add color to daily life.
Among them, the MARU series, despite involving many steps, is characterized by the frosted glass-like parts being polished back to a shine, creating a finish that gently fits the fingers. It is a glass that makes you feel relaxed every time you see or use it.
