Characteristics of Tomokazu Kawasumi's Works

Tomokazu Kawasumi's pottery is characterized by the unique texture created by the warmth inherent in Kasama clay and metallic glazes. The surface of his works reveals natural patterns formed during firing, showcasing diverse expressions depending on the viewing angle and light.

Another captivating aspect is the series with textures so unique it's hard to believe they came from the earth. The "Rock Bark" series features rock and tree bark textures that emerge by carving the clay piece by piece and scorching it with a burner, while the "Zebra" series, inspired by zebras, showcases black and white patterns. The world embodied in these series names is also unique to Tomokazu Kawasumi. The name is the concept. The concept is the worldview. Philosophy resides in each and every piece.
