Characteristics of Tomokazu Kawasumi's Works

Tomokazu Kawasumi's pottery is characterized by the unique texture created by the warmth characteristic of Kasama clay and metallic glazes. Natural patterns emerge on the surface of his works through firing, showing various expressions depending on the viewing angle and lighting.

He also has fascinating series with textures that are hard to believe come from clay. The "Rock Bark" series, where the texture of rock faces and tree bark emerges by carving each piece of clay and scorching it with a burner, and the "Zebra" series, which evokes black and white stripes like a zebra, demonstrate Tomokazu Kawasumi's unique worldview embedded in the series names. The name is the concept. The concept is the worldview. Each piece embodies a philosophy.
