Artist Masanori Yamamoto - Rhythmic and vibrant "shinogi" patterned tableware
Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1987, Masanori Yamamoto grew up in an environment steeped in pottery tradition. He graduated from the Ceramic Arts course at Kyoto Seika University's Faculty of Art and Design in 2009, where he thoroughly learned the fundamentals of pottery. Subsequently, in 2010, he completed the Small Pottery Wheel course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Ceramic Research Institute and gained practical experience working at a ceramic manufacturer.
Furthermore, in 2015, he completed the Clay and Glaze course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Ceramic Research Institute. He acquired deep knowledge and skills concerning glazes and clay bodies, imbuing his works with even greater individuality. Currently, he continues to create pottery in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Prefecture, under the workshop name "Kozangama" (幸山窯), inherited from his grandfather.

Masanori Yamamoto's works are characterized by the "shinogi" pattern, meticulously carved by hand, one by one.The "shinogi" pattern is rhythmic and vibrant, giving the vessels a rich expression. There are three series: one with diagonal "shinogi" patterns, another with a "rope pattern" created by carving vertical lines and then finely carving diagonal lines into the remaining parts to produce a warm texture reminiscent of knitted cable patterns, and the "Hana Shinogi" series, which appears as華やか as blooming flowers.
