Masanori Yamamoto's "Shinogi Rimmed Plate, Small, Black" is a Shigaraki ware featuring beautiful diagonal "shinogi" fluting. Each piece is meticulously hand-carved. Its slight depth makes it ideal for dishes like soup.
This is a versatile and beautiful piece suitable for both Japanese and Western cuisine. Its depth is exquisite, perfectly balancing a flat plate and a bowl.
※As each item is handmade, there may be slight differences between individual pieces.
※The black spots on the pieces are naturally occurring iron particles remaining in the clay that have oxidized during firing. These are part of the unique character of each piece, so please compare them and appreciate their individual expressions.

Artist Masanori Yamamoto - Rythmic and dynamic "shinogi" patterned ware
Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1987, Masanori Yamamoto grew up in an environment steeped in the tradition of pottery. He graduated from Kyoto Seika University, Faculty of Art, Department of Design, Ceramics Course in 2009, where he thoroughly learned the fundamentals of pottery. After that, he completed the Small Potter's Wheel Course at Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute in 2010 and gained practical experience working at a ceramics manufacturer.
In 2015, he further completed the Clay and Glaze Course at Shigaraki Ceramic Research Institute. He acquired deep knowledge and skills related to glazes and clay, adding unique characteristics to his works. Currently, he continues to create pottery in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Prefecture, under the workshop name "Kozangama" (幸山窯), inherited from his grandfather.

Characteristics of Masanori Yamamoto's Works
Masanori Yamamoto's works are characterized by "shinogi" patterns, meticulously hand-carved one by one.The "shinogi" patterns are rhythmic and dynamic, giving the ware a rich expression. There are three types of series: one with diagonal "shinogi" patterns, another called "Nawame" (rope pattern) where vertical lines are carved and the remaining parts are intricately carved diagonally to create a warm texture like cable knit, and the "Hanashinogi" (flower shinogi) series which appears華やか like blooming flowers.
