A vessel with a gentle pattern drawn with blue lines

Natsumi Ishii's "Blue and White Grass Pattern Small Plate" is a pure-looking dish with a grass pattern painted in pale indigo on white porcelain. The hand-painted brushstrokes have a slight wavering, natural rhythm, like grass swaying in the breeze.

The indigo of the blue and white porcelain has beautiful variations in shade, and its appearance changes depending on the amount of light. The soft blue blends gently into the white base, creating a lightness like the air floating in the spring sunshine.

This small plate can be used to hold sweets and condiments, or simply placed on the table to create a gentle space. It is modest, yet exudes the warmth and elegance that only hand-painted art can offer.

The "grass patterns" have a quiet beauty that seems to gently capture the breath of life in nature.

Profile of Natsumi Ishii

He is a potter in Kyoto City. He also works under the name "Ishiimoke" and creates unpretentious tableware for everyday use, focusing on Kohiki pottery. The color of the earth faintly peeks through from beneath the white glaze, giving the pottery its rustic and gentle appearance. Despite its simple shape, the balance of the rim lines and foot is playful, making it a vessel that looks strangely good no matter what is served inside. In addition, in collaboration with painter Kawamura Aiko, he adds patterns reminiscent of the world of antique art, giving the pottery a story-telling quality. His works are filled with a soft and familiar world that is imbued with the atmosphere of Kyoto.
