"p/Shallow Bowl (Large) B" by Tomokazu Kawasumi (Kasama ware) is a Kasama ware bowl with a mysterious look that is created by the interweaving of blue and black. This is a new piece for this exhibition. After many years of research, Kawasumi Tomokazu has finally perfected the ideal blue glaze. It embodies a tranquil and profound world, as if peering into a nebula or galaxy in space. The patterns that unfold within it give the impression of infinite expanse. Another part of its appeal is how the shades of blue fluctuate in depth, changing their appearance depending on the angle and light from which they are viewed. Artist Tomokazu Kawasumi - Unique works created by the warmth of Kasama clay and metallic glazes
Tomokazu Kawasumi was born in Hokota City, Ibaraki Prefecture in 1996 and has been familiar with craftsmanship since childhood. In 2019, he graduated from the Ceramics Course of the Department of Traditional Crafts, Faculty of Crafts, Kyoto University of Art and Design, and while deepening his skills and knowledge of traditional crafts, his passion for pottery has only grown stronger.
To further his studies, he graduated from the ceramics department of Ibaraki Prefectural Kasama Ceramic College in 2021, and then trained at the famous Kasama ware kiln, Otsu Kogama. While inheriting the traditional techniques of Kasama ware, he continued to explore his own style.
In 2023, he went independent and established his own studio in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where he creates unique ceramic pieces that combine the warmth unique to Kasama clay with metallic glazes.
He is a wonderful potter who is currently combining pottery making with social contributions, such as exhibiting his works at charity auctions.
