One-of-a-Kind Cup & Saucer Set from Narutaki Kiln, Inheriting Bizen Ware Tradition

Narutaki Kiln, located in Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture, is a pottery studio known for creating ceramics that merge the traditional beauty of Bizen ware with a modern sensibility.

They prioritize techniques that maximize the power of "earth" and "fire," the origins of Bizen ware. Without using glazes, they fire their pieces at temperatures exceeding 1200 degrees Celsius for about two weeks, producing unique natural patterns such as "goma" (sesame seeds) and "hidasuki" (fire streaks). At the same time, they also craft tableware that fits seamlessly into modern dining settings.

Committed to the natural firing results of a climbing kiln, they pursue perfection in their "nurturing vessels" that become more characterful with use. Their works, while substantial, exude a certain warmth.
