Characteristics of Tomokazu Kawasumi's Works
Tomokazu Kawasumi's pottery is characterized by the unique texture created by the warmth of Kasama clay and metallic glazes. Natural patterns emerge on the surface of the works during firing, revealing a variety of expressions depending on the viewing angle and lighting.
Another appealing aspect is the series with textures that defy their earthen origins. The "Rock Bark" series features rock and tree bark textures that emerge by carving each piece of clay and scorching it with a burner. The "Zebra" series, with its black and white stripes reminiscent of a zebra, and the world expressed in the series names are also unique to Tomokazu Kawasumi. The name is the concept. The concept is the worldview. Philosophy dwells in each and every work.
