Characteristics of Tomokazu Kawasumi's Works

Tomokazu Kawasumi's pottery is characterized by a unique texture created by the warmth of Kasama clay and metallic glazes. The surface of his works reveals natural patterns created by firing, showcasing various expressions depending on the viewing angle and light.

He also has a fascinating series with textures that are hard to believe are made from clay. The "Rock Bark" series, where rock and tree bark textures emerge by carving each piece of clay and scorching it with a burner, and the black and white "Zebura" series, inspired by zebras, both convey a world unique to Tomokazu Kawasumi through their series names. The name is the concept. The concept is the worldview. Each piece embodies a philosophy.
