Characteristics of Tomokazu Kawasumi's Works

Tomokazu Kawasumi's ceramics are characterized by a unique texture created by the warmth inherent in Kasama clay and metallic glazes. The surface of his works features natural patterns formed during firing, which reveal diverse expressions depending on the viewing angle and light.

When you hold his "utsuwa" (vessels), you'll feel a moist texture and a profound presence. Their design, which prioritizes compatibility with food, transforms the dining table into a special place. Tomokazu Kawasumi's ceramics transcend being mere "utsuwa"; they are companions that resonate with the user's heart.

The unique texture woven by the warmth characteristic of Kasama clay and metallic glazes

Tomokazu Kawasumi's pottery is filled with meticulous attention to detail. He primarily uses Kasama clay, blending traditional techniques cultivated over many years with his unique innovations. To maximize the properties of this material, he carefully experimented with glazes and firing methods. Additionally, his original metallic glazes create a profound and refined luster despite being ceramic. This brilliance adds a new charm to the "utsuwa"'s appearance and brings a touch of quality to the dining table.

Tomokazu Kawasumi considers "utsuwa" to be "supporting actors for food." Therefore, he pays close attention not only to their shape and size but also to the color and texture of the glaze, pursuing designs that naturally harmonize with any dish.
