A glass vessel of light and life born from the depths of a lake

Kaminaga Akemi's "Biwako-iro Katakuchi" is a one-of-a-kind vessel that captures the color of Lake Biwa, an ancient lake that has stood the test of time, within the glass.

Lake Biwa is one of the world's most ancient lakes, with a history of over 4 million years. Kaminaga has captured the life energy generated by the mud that accumulates at the bottom of the lake, the water teeming with life, and the swaying of the aquatic plants in glass.

The ash used in this vessel is made from burned aquatic plants from Lake Biwa. By dissolving the ash from the aquatic plants, a unique color is created that is both soft and deep, evoking the feeling of sunlight shining on the surface of the lake and the presence of life floating at the bottom.

This katakuchi is characterized by its gently undulating form and the color of the lake that seems to emanate from within, and when it sparkles in the light, it looks as if it has been scooped up from the surface of Lake Biwa.
