Artist Masanori Yamamoto - Tableware with Rhythmic and Dynamic "Shinogi" Patterns
Born in Shiga Prefecture in 1987, Masanori Yamamoto grew up in an environment steeped in pottery tradition. He graduated from the Kyoto Seika University, Faculty of Art, Department of Sculpture, Ceramics Course in 2009, where he thoroughly learned the fundamentals of pottery. Subsequently, in 2010, he completed the Small Item Pottery Wheel Course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Ceramic Technology Institute, gaining practical experience while working for a ceramics manufacturer.
Furthermore, in 2015, he completed the Body and Glaze Course at the Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park Ceramic Technology Institute. He acquired deep knowledge and skills in glazes and ceramic bodies, which have given his works even greater originality. Currently, in Shigaraki Town, Shiga Prefecture, he continues his ceramic work under the workshop name "Kozan-gama," inherited from his grandfather.

Characteristics of Masanori Yamamoto's Works
Masanori Yamamoto's works are characterized by "shinogi" patterns, meticulously carved by hand. The "shinogi" patterns are rhythmic and dynamic, giving the tableware a rich expression. There are three series: one with diagonal "shinogi" patterns, another called "Nawame" (rope pattern) which features vertical lines carved with fine diagonal carvings in the remaining areas, creating a warm, knitted rope-like texture, and the "Hana Shinogi" (flower shinogi) series, which appears as if flowers are blooming beautifully.
