A Charming Shigaraki Ware Dish Adorned with Delicately Carved "Shinogi" Patterns

Masanori Yamamoto's "Shinogi Narrow Rim Plate M White" is a beautiful dish that blends the tradition of Shigaraki ware with his unique contemporary design.

The numerous delicately carved "shinogi" patterns are meticulously etched by hand, one by one, adding a touch of elegance to the entire dish. The patterns on the rim create a華やかな印象 (vibrant impression) on the dining table, while also drawing focus to the food, making it appear more appealing.

A distinctive feature is the narrow, double-lined shinogi, which allows for serving more food than a typical rimmed plate.

As each piece is handmade, there are slight variations in color and carving. With use, the dish develops a deeper patina and luster, offering a unique, one-of-a-kind texture to enjoy.

Meals served on Masanori Yamamoto's stylish dishes are sure to make your everyday life more cherished.

*As each item is handmade, there may be slight individual differences.
*The black specks on the pieces are naturally occurring iron particles remaining in the clay that oxidize when fired. This is part of their individuality, so please compare the expressions of each piece and appreciate their differences.

Characteristics of Masanori Yamamoto's Works

Masanori Yamamoto's works are characterized by "shinogi" patterns, each meticulously carved by hand. The "shinogi" patterns are rhythmic and dynamic, giving the dishes a rich expression. There are three series: a series with diagonal "shinogi" patterns, a "Nawame" (rope pattern) series created by carving vertical lines and then finely carving diagonal lines into the remaining parts to create the warm appearance of a knitted cable, and the "Hana-shinogi" (flower shinogi) series, which appears as vibrant as blooming flowers.
