Daiki Tanaka (TATA pottery)
"Leaving the voice of the clay in the vessel" - Ceramic artist Daiki Tanaka (TATA Pottery Studio) who lives with clay
After graduating from Kyoto Seika University's ceramics course, Daiki Tanaka honed his skills under Shin Murata before going independent in 2015. Since 2024, he has been releasing his own personal works (raw clay/vessel making) under the name "Daiki Tanaka," while also releasing his collaborative works with painter Katsura Tanabe under the name "TATA Pottery Studio." Daiki Tanaka's craftsmanship is characterized by his pursuit of "beauty of utility" and his emphasis on the story that connects the clay to the vessel. The natural flow of the glaze on the vessel and the unevenness created by wood-fired firing appear as if the firing process has been checked against the vessel, and these fluctuations in expression bring a little drama to everyday life. TATA Pottery Studio also produces collaborative works with Kyoto ware painter Katsura Tanabe. The vibrant painting enhances the expression of the sake cups, and the painted works highlight Tanaka's playful spirit and Tanabe's delicate brushwork.
