A fiery poem spun by the scarlet sash - Scarlet Goblet

With one sip, the vibrant crimson color spreads across your hand in Oe Hitori's "Hidasuki Goblet," a goblet-shaped sake vessel that modernizes the traditional Bizen ware technique of "Hidasuki." By wrapping it in straw and placing it in the kiln, the kiln flames and the straw ash create a chemical reaction, creating a single scarlet streak on the deep, yakishime clay surface. Its moderate size makes it perfect for sake, as well as cold tea and wine. Its stable, comfortable grip and smooth spout add a touch of beauty to the drinker's movements. The wrinkles in the clay settle and the texture improves with each use—this "pleasure of nurturing" is also part of its appeal.

Modern Bizen craftsman Oe Hitori, who carries the memories of earth and fire

After training for six years at the Bizen ware Rokusei pottery manufacturer Tokeido, Oe Kazuto began working as an artist in Bizen, Okayama in 2011. In 2015, he moved his studio to Mashiko, Tochigi Prefecture, and continues to produce unglazed, Yakishime pieces, including those using the "Hidasuki" technique, which involves wrapping the piece in straw before firing. While inheriting tradition, his pieces incorporate modern, sharp forms and are highly regarded as vessels that mature with use, conveying the memories of earth and fire in your hands.
