Artist Tobimatsu Hirotaka - Warm space and pottery created by Tobimatsu lamps
Born in Saga Prefecture in 1980, currently living in Tokyo. He presents works centered on porcelain casting under the name "Tobimatsu Toki." He graduated from the ceramics program of the Department of Crafts at Tama Art University. Utilizing his experience in three-dimensional modeling using molds while at school, he began creating "utensils" using the casting mold technique. After working as an assistant to ceramic artists Takehiko Higuchi and Machiko Ogawa, he went independent.
The greatest feature of Hirotaka Tobimatsu's work is the way it creates a warm space with the interweaving of light and shadow. His designs, which make use of the translucency of porcelain, have a nostalgic yet fresh "retro-modern" atmosphere. His diverse works, including lampshades, "tableware," and vases, are imbued with delicate beauty in their simplicity, gently illuminating everyday living spaces. His works are also used in the lighting fixtures at nokaze stores, emanating a presence that brightens up the entire space.
A simple and modern piece that makes the most of the translucency of Tobimatsu Lighting's porcelain.
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works are characterized by techniques that make the most of the translucency of porcelain. The casting method he uses involves pouring liquid porcelain clay into a plaster mold, achieving a uniform, smooth shape and beautiful translucency. Another feature of his work is the use of a uniquely adjusted porcelain clay, which gives the piece a delicate texture that allows more light to pass through than regular porcelain.
The lampshades in particular are attractive, with their soft light gently enveloping the entire space in the darkness, creating a modern yet nostalgic impression.Furthermore, the plates and bowls combine durability and simple beauty suitable for everyday use, and the vases are designed to naturally harmonize with plants and the space.
A comfortable time woven by light and shadow
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works show a strong commitment to the expression of light. "Light is not just a physical source of brightness; it also brings peace to people's hearts," he says. True to his words, his works create warmth and rhythm in the space through light.
The lampshades are meticulously designed to reflect the softness and angle of the light, making them artistic pieces that transcend mere lighting fixtures. The slight irregularities and subtle hues on the porcelain surface create contrasts between light and shadow, creating a beauty that is almost as if it were a snapshot of a natural landscape.
Among them are a number of "tableware" made using unique techniques. The simple designs are delicate and all of them will enrich your daily life. The "tableware" is also light and extremely easy to use. Once you try them, you will never want to let them go.
Hirotaka Tobimatsu's works illuminate our everyday lives and create new value. Come experience their charm at the nokaze store and try incorporating them into your own space.
*As these are handmade, there may be individual differences in color and shape. Please enjoy the unique texture that can only be achieved through handcrafting.
