Artist Tomokazu Kawasumi - Unique works created by the warmth of Kasama clay and metallic glazes

Tomokazu Kawasumi was born in Hokota, Ibaraki Prefecture in 1996 and has been familiar with craftsmanship since childhood. In 2019, he graduated from the Ceramics Course of the Department of Traditional Crafts, Faculty of Crafts, Kyoto University of Art and Design, and as he deepened his knowledge and skills in traditional crafts, he further strengthened his passion for ceramics.

To further his studies, he graduated from the Department of Ceramics at Kasama Ceramic College of Ibaraki in 2021, and then trained at the famous Kasama ware kiln, Otsu Kougama. While inheriting the traditional techniques of Kasama ware, he continued to explore his own style.

In 2023, he became independent and established his own studio in Kasama City, Ibaraki Prefecture, where he creates unique pieces that combine the warmth unique to Kasama clay with metallic glazes.

He is a wonderful artist who currently balances pottery making with contributing to society, including exhibiting his works at charity auctions.
